eduardo-: Bull Shark (Carcharhinus leucas)
Bull Sharks are considered by science to be one of the most dangerous shark species to humans. They are implicated in a significant number of attacks on people, this is in part due to their locality relative to human settlement, and also their method of predation.
Also considered to be useful as a food fish for things like Sharkfin Soup, it’s also registered as Near Threatened (NT) on the IUCN register. Which is a shame, because it is a highly effective and integral apex predator in reef ecosystems.
Part of the problem exists in that to reach sexual productivity, this species generally takes in the order of one and a half decades. Unfortunately, many don’t quite make it that far, and thus populations lose the ability to repopulate before being hunted.
I have created a vintage greeting card for everyone quoting one of my favorites, Charles Dickens. The Christmas eve’s getting nearer, and I want to be one of the earliest to greet: Maligayang Pasko from the Philippines! - A.
